Absurdity: Emmett Till & Trayvon Martin

Friends,

I have tried to hold back my thoughts on the wave of pundits & celebrities comparing Trayvon Martin to Emmett Till because it really makes me want to curse & I’m trying to keep my language clean. From the NAACP to Beyonce to Toure…many are making this very fallacious and absurd comparison. The two cases are nothing alike & I have no idea how the Martin or the Till family feels about this, but if I were a member of the Till family in particular, I’d be insulted quite frankly.

There’s no comparison to a mob of white men abducting a fourteen year old boy out of his relative’s home in the middle of the night & lynching him for talking to a white woman in 1955, to a Hispanic man shooting an unarmed seventeen year old black teenager in self-defense (according to the jury verdict), during a fight in 2012. Let me say that I’m not one who agrees with the verdict entirely in the latter case (but I accept it) but juxtaposing Trayvon Martin & Emmett Till….really? Recently, there were pictures allegedly released by mistake, of Trayvon Martin’s dead body & I’m starting to think this was done on purpose, in order to manipulate the public into falling for such a comparison when there is none, as well as to incite outrage.I will not disrespect the seriousness of Emmett Till’s horrific lynching in that manner & shame on those doing just that.

The only similarity is that both cases caused a national (and international) uproar but the Till case catapulted the Civil Rights movement and people of all races started to stand up against the racial discrimination & murders of black people in the deep South. Some of my friends from different political ideologies have asked me about this, mostly my liberal friends & those are my thoughts. If you see the evidence in the Zimmerman case differently, fine. If you decide to protest fine, but leave Emmett Till out of it. The Emmett Till name/imagery is being used to manipulate America into seeing Zimmerman as one who has “lynched” a young black man & I think that’s irresponsible, end of story.

Although both are both tragedies…they are not the same:

Zimmerman Not Guilty: My Thoughts

Friends,

crossesBy now you all know that George Zimmerman has been found not guilty. Here are my thoughts, as shared via my Facebook page & this is all I have to say:

“My heart is heavy for that community right now, the Martin family for their tragic loss & the Zimmerman family who will live in fear & the nation, because this case brought out the ugliest of ugliness on both sides. For those who think Zimmerman was really guilty, trust me, let it go. If he was lying & they got it wrong he WILL answer to a higher authority – there’s no escaping that. For those who are celebrating & support him, humble yourselves & do not give in to insensitive celebrating of a dead 17 year old nor should you throw this in anyone’s face. It’s a tragedy all around. The race-baiting, insensitivity & relentless vitriol from both sides means we have a LONG way to go as a nation. This case didn’t create any wounds or hatred, it revealed them. It brought them to the surface. THAT is the real tragedy – that we have a ton of healing to do in terms of race relations in America. It has only begun…”

God Bless…

Black Conservatives for Trayvon Martin Share Their Thoughts

Friends,

zimmerman martinLast year when I wrote about the ‪George Zimmerman‬ case for Yahoo (in three parts), I was definitely, initially more defensive of Zimmerman but urged that we all wait for the facts. Here are some facts gathered by ‪black conservatives‬ who side with the ‎Trayvon Martin‬ family/prosecution & do not believe Zimmerman’s self-defense claims. Interesting & admittedly, some of these are things that brought up questions in my mind & others I didn’t know, like the fact that there was no grass tall enough to hide Martin’s 5’11’ height (#19 on this list). Personally, I think that many on the left & right have had a knee-jerk reaction, to automatically oppose the other due to political tribalism. The fact that ‪Al Sharpton‬ was involved in this case (he was asked to) I think also caused some to oppose him because they don’t like him or his involvement in prior cases. I don’t have enough fingers & toes to count the number of times a person (usually on the right) has brought up the Tawana Brawley case & Al Sharpton’s involvement in it, when discussing this case.  In philosophy, we call that a genetic fallacy, which is rejecting an idea because of the source rather than it’s merits. For some, since Al Sharpton is involved & believes Zimmerman is guilty, Zimmerman must therefore, be innocent of murder & his claims of self-defense more plausible. Do you see how fallacious that is? Sharpton being wrong about Tawana Brawley doesn’t mean he’s wrong about George Zimmerman, or that Zimmerman acted in self-defense as he claims.

Likewise, some on the left will not even consider the possibility that Zimmerman may have shot in self-defense & won’t view this in any other way other than through their own political or racial prism. If the right-wing mostly supports Zimmerman, he must be guilty. I have examined both sides & can’t make up my mind completely, but I don’t believe Zimmerman’s version of events entirely, and I won’t pretend to because that’s the consensus on my political “side”. Equally, I won’t condemn him just because I’m black or the fact that most on the left support him either. I’ll wait for the verdict & accept it. We must respect the rule of law, not the media or the mob – on either side. For my liberal friends who think all black conservatives defend Zimmerman, you’re wrong. In the end, only the thoughts of the six, female jurors matter.

Here is the list compiled by Black Conservatives for Trayvon as it was posted, but I’ll add that #23 is not sharpton and martin familyentirely accurate because there is video evidence that Trayvon Martin was wearing his hoodie, at least part of the time he was in the store. That doesn’t prove any criminality on his part though. It was raining outside and perhaps he chose not to take it off because he wasn’t going to be in there for very long. In any case, it’s not illegal to wear a hoodie and I wear them all the time (and I’m a black American), particularly in the winter while jogging, am I a criminal or thug too? If anyone is wondering why I am sharing this, it’s simple – for balance. I’ve used plenty of keystrokes already in Zimmerman’s defense & I won’t censor my uncertainty regarding his claims. It’s called objectivity:

Trayvon Martin Killing: Fact Sheet

***GET THE FACTS***

This tragedy and subsequent trial has brought race relations in America to a fever pitch. Most people are responding according to their cultural and racial biases and NOT the facts of the case. The following, documented facts cannot be disputed. If you are interested in truth and justice, review the following facts and see if they do not reshape some of your opinions. No matter what your race or political affiliation, the following facts cannot be disputed:

1. Zimmerman called the police to report Martin’s “suspicious” behavior, which he described as “just walking around looking about.” Walking around in the neighborhood is not a crime nor suspicious for a 17 yr old teenager… at 7:30pm.

Zimmerman was in his car when he saw Martin walking on the street. He called the police and said: “There’s a real suspicious guy. This guy looks like he’s up to no good, on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around looking about… These a**holes always get away”
(Orlando Sentinel)

2. Zimmerman pursued Martin against the explicit instructions of the police dispatcher:

Dispatcher: “Are you following him?”
Zimmerman: “Yeah”
Dispatcher: “OK, we don’t need you to do that.”
(Orlando Sentinel)

3. Prior to the release of the 911 tapes, Zimmerman’s father released a statement claiming ”At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin.”
(Sun Sentinel)

4. Zimmerman was carrying a 9 millimeter handgun. Martin was carrying a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea.
(ABC News)

5. Martin weighed 153 pounds at the time of death. Zimmerman weighs 250 pounds and was 204 pounds at the time of shooting.
(Orlando Sentinel)

6. Martin’s English teacher described him as “as an A and B student who majored in cheerfulness.” He was not a ‘bad’ or ‘troubled’ student. He got a mandatory suspension from school because he had an empty bag w/ marijuana residue.
(Orlando Sentinel)

7. Martin had no criminal record.
(New York Times)

8. Zimmerman “was charged in July 2005 with resisting arrest with violence and battery on an officer. The charges appear to have been dropped.” Additionally, he had been previously entered into an anger management program for domestic violence assault on a girlfriend.
(VIDEO: http://www.wptv.com/dpp/news/state/george-zimmerman-was-arrested-before-trayvon-martin-case-previously-accused-of-domestic-violence)

9. Zimmerman called the police 46 times between Jan. 1, 2011 and the shooting on February 25th, 2012.
(Miami Herald)

10. According to neighbors, Zimmerman was “fixated on crime and focused on young, black males.”
(Miami Herald)

11. Zimmerman “had been the subject of complaints by neighbors in his gated community for aggressive tactics”
(Huffington Post)

12. A police officer “corrected” a key witness. “The officer told the witness, a long-time teacher, it was Zimmerman who cried for help, said the witness. ABC News has spoken to the teacher and she confirmed that the officer corrected her when she said she heard the teenager shout for help.”
(ABC News)

13. Three witnesses say they heard a boy cry for help before a shot was fired. “Three witnesses contacted by The Miami Herald say they saw or heard the moments before and after the Miami Gardens teenager’s killing. All three said they heard the last howl for help from a despondent boy.”
(Miami Herald)

14. The officer in charge of the crime scene also received criticism in 2010 when he initially failed to arrest a lieutenant’s son who was videotaped attacking a homeless black man.
(New York Times)

15. The police did not test Zimmerman for drugs or alcohol. A law enforcement expert told ABC that Zimmerman sounds intoxicated on the 911 tapes. Drug and alcohol testing is “standard procedure in most homicide investigations.”
9ABC News0

16. George Zimmerman took Mixed Martial Arts classes for at least a year before the incident. A physician assistant who treated George Zimmerman’s injuries the day after he said he shot and killed Trayvon Martin in self-defense testified that she had treated Zimmerman before, and that he told her he’d had been involved with mixed martial arts several times a week.
(Central Florida News)

17. The detective originally on the case was stopped by the chief of police from filing charges and arresting Zimmerman for manslaughter. When he insisted on filing the charges, he was demoted from detective back to night beat officers.
(VIDEO: CNN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG3l8g2S5Kc)

18. Zimmerman claims to have been looking for an address in a gated neighborhood with ONLY 3 streets that he is the self proclaimed neighborhood watch captain of… and he has lived there for 4 years. Also, the street he claimed to be looking for an address from had obvious street numbers on it.
(Trial Evidence)

19. His original claim was that he was sucker punched after Martin jumped from the bushes and attacked him. There are no bushes tall enough to hide his 5′ 11” body in the neighborhood anywhere near the incident.
(CNN)

20. The gun George Zimmerman used was designed to be loaded and ready to shoot. It was also concealed in a holster behind his back. His gun had to have been loaded when he pulled it out to shoot Martin, which is inconsistent with his assertion that he was afraid of the unarmed teenager.
(VIDEO: CNN http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2013/07/03/george-zimmermans-gun/)

21. The actual shooting took place +40 feet away from where Zimmerman claimed he was attacked and immediately knocked down and claims he was unable to flee from. They had to have scuffled and rolled on the ground in front of 2 different residences (leaving no dna or forensic evidence behind) before being shot.
(Trial Evidence)

22. In addition to the 3 different accounts from Zimmerman not adding up, Zimmerman claims that he was screaming for help as he reached for his gun and shot the boy. In the phone recording, the screaming for help immediately stopped once the gun was fired. He says that the threat was eliminated and therefore he didn’t need to scream anymore. But, he was adamant that he didn’t know that he shot him or killed him when interviewed by the police.
(Trial Evidence)

23. Though dark, it was 7:30pm on a Sunday evening. He was walking, not running, in a neighborhood that he was SUPPOSED to be in as he was heading back home to take the candy back to his 12 yr old (soon to be) step brother. According to the video in the store, he didn’t have his hoodie on. That didn’t take place until it started raining.
(Trial Evidence)

24. Zimmerman’s original attorney’s decided NOT to represent him once they spoke to him and found out the facts of the case. This was dismissed in the media as them being ‘opportunist’ and only wanting publicity.

The “N” Word, The “C” Word: Selective vs Convenient Outrage

Friends,

Consevative Libertarian blogger Talitha McEachin

Consevative Libertarian blogger Talitha McEachin

I don’t use pejoratives of any kind towards any group, but last year when I wrote the series “The Top 10 Things that Black & White People Want to Know about One Another but Won’t Ask” for CainTV , one of the blogs was about the use of the “N word“. I literally talked to thousands of white & black people about how they felt about the pejoratives used towards them (“nigger”/”cracker”) and overwhelmingly, black people were offended by the word “nigger” (some from whites only & some no matter the race – I happen to be in the latter group), while white people were not so offended by “cracker” or “honky”. In fact, less than 10% of the white people I surveyed were offended. Some even laughed at the notion that they should be quite frankly.

Looking back on those threads throughout social media, the emailed responses I received, and recorded responses from people I spoke with, it is amazing how many of the same people who said they weren’t offended a year ago, are suddenly offended & sensitive to it, in the aftermath of Paula Deen drama & in the wake of the George Zimmerman trial. It’s a glaring difference. I’ll never, ever tell anyone what should & should not offend them because that’s for each person to determine for themselves, but the difference of one year is astonishing….and very telling. If black people who are offended by Paula Deen’s use of the N word, yet not offended by intraracial use of it are demonstrating “selective outrage” (as many on the right love to point out & I would agree to an extent), then white people who were not offended by “cracker” a year ago, yet are suddenly offended now, are demonstrating “convenient outrage”. Some want to be offended, so they can feel better about disparaging Rachel Jeantel & her admission that Trayvon Martin used the term “creepy a** cracker” and defend Paula Deen’s use of the word, or give her a pass. What’s the best way to do that that with ease? Suddenly pretend to be offended by a pejorative which some could have cared less about only a year ago. As the 18 year old daughter of a friend so eloquently expressed to me:

“I’m not offended by being called a honky or a cracker because neither of those words have long and bloody histories of disgusting hatred and oppression behind them. Had they been used during some sort of inhumane torture of my people I might get mad. But they weren’t, while most racial slurs against people of color were. A POC using a name against a white person won’t do much to the white person besides hurt their feelings, if that. White people using racial slurs exhibits deep roots of xenophobia and racism, things which will continue to hinder the progression of equality until they are abolished.”

Pejoratives used by persons outside of the acceptable use community are often frowned upon and punished severely in our society. White people can call one another “honky”or “cracker” but blacks can’t do it without the possibility of being offensive. The same is true for the N word when used by non-black persons, “spic” when used by non-Hispanics, “hymie” when used by non-Jewish persons (although I have never heard a Jewish person call another Jew a “hymie”), heterosexual use of the words “fag/faggot” – even women can call one another bitches, but if a man does it there’s hell to pay.

These are just linguistic, social etiquette nuances which we have created and allowed to flourish for so long. The only exceptions I found in my research, was familiarity with the user & that’s almost always with people under the age of 30. It’s not fair, it’s not right, I don’t like it, but to ignore this about the English language & hurl accusations of hypocrisy or “selective outrage” is simply dishonest. The bastard (spoken) English language is one of the most confusing, inconsistent & manipulated languages spoken. Our dictionaries are not the problem, we are.

Just an observation…

What White People Don’t Understand About Rachel Jeantel

Friends,

As you all probably already know the murder trial of George Zimmerman has begun. There has been quite a bit of discussion of the prosecution’s star witness, Rachel Jeantel regarding her demeanor, courtroom etiquette, honesty and diction. One of my Facebook friends shared this with me and I concur with her assessment that it’s a worthy read. It is from the Global Grind website and written by staff writer Rachel Samara:

A predominantly white jury is not going to like Rachel Jeantel. Let’s just be real here.Rachel Jeantel

The 19-year-old Miami native is an easy target for obvious, yet shallow reasons. But let’s not forget why she’s actually on the stand in George Zimmerman’s second degree murder trial. Rachel was the last person to speak to a living, breathing Trayvon Martin. The guilt, shame and sorrow she must feel is something most of us will never be able to comprehend. You could hear it in her voice, see it in her jittery body language. She is feeling the wrath of this highly publicized case.

Rachel was thrown head first into this murder story, unwillingly. And although she had repeatedly said she did not want to be a witness, did not even want to believe she was the last person Trayvon spoke to, Rachel took the stand for all the right reasons. She was asked to by the family of her deceased friend and feeling part of the burden for his death, she wanted to help.

Rachel was raw, emotional, aggressive and hostile, and she was unapologetically herself.

And if the 5 white jurors (excluding the 1 Latina) are like most white people I know, they are unfortunately not going to like Rachel. They won’t understand her, especially not her defensive nature, and this will unfortunately work against her. Even though it shouldn’t.

I can imagine George Zimmerman’s defense is just hoping some of those 5 white jurors have some prejudices (as most people do), or hell, are even racist, because if they are, their tactic to make Rachel out to be less intelligent, rather than less credible than she actually is, might actually work.

Less intelligent and more confused.

Less intelligent because of the “language barrier” and more confused because of the lawyers’ failure to understand who Rachel is, where she comes from, what kind of life she lives.

It seems the middle-aged white men on both sides of this case are totally unaware of what Rachel’s life is like – a 19-year-old high school student of Haitian descent who knows nothing more than the few block radius she has grown up in. The cultural differences here are exponential.

But if the lawyers, and especially the jurors, were really listening, they would see that although she comes off aggressive, Rachel was consistent. Yes, the defense proved she had lied in the past, but she didn’t deny it. On the contrary. She was very honest about it, and even led us to sympathize with her reasoning for it – she did not want to see Trayvon’s body, she did not want to face Trayvon’s mother and she wanted to wipe her hands of the situation because of the emotion and trauma. She was the last person Trayvon spoke to and she wanted everyone to understand what that means. This is in no way easy for her.

Rachel is the prosecution’s key witness, but I am going to call her the misunderstood witness. She holds vital information that both the defense and prosecution need, but these middle-aged white men questioning her do not get it. Sadly both the prosecution and the defense [but more so the defense] have an extreme disconnect from her reality, like I said. The constant text messaging between her and Trayvon is normal for two high school kids who may like each other, the nonchalant use of racial slurs like “cracka” and “n*gga” are slang (as Rachel put it) and that doesn’t mean it comes from a racist place.

Trayvon was just 17, his life consisted of text messaging, high school, PS3, girls and not much else. He had a lot of growing up to do, a lot of experiences to take in, so much more to learn, but sadly, he will never get a chance to do any of those things.

Rachel on the other hand will get to, but with her immaturity displayed on the stand for the whole world to see, she quickly became a joke. Maybe we were picturing Trayvon’s alleged girlfriend to be a bit different, but nevertheless, Rachel still is the last person, aside from George Zimmerman, that Trayvon had any contact with while he was alive on this earth. Rachel’s mumbling, hostility and that reference to the show First 48, among other things, threw us for a loophole, but let’s remember, she is just a teen. This is what she knows. This is far from a Lifetime movie, this is her life. In the flesh, but still on our TVs.

Conservatives & Racism: Liberal Lie or Harsh Reality?

Conservatives & Racism: Liberal Lie or Harsh Reality?

I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to writing and so I was actually re-writing the blog I had written on reparations to answer the next question from black people in the blog series on race “The Top 10 Things Black & White People Want to Know About One Another, But Won’t Ask” because I was not satisfied with it entirely and I came across another valid point which I had missed. Then this morning as I was writing a good conservative friend of mine Stacy Swimp, founder of Contagious Transformation alerted me to the post below from the page of a white conservative and the many comments under it by other white conservatives. In fact, as I type this, Stacy and I are the only two black people that have made comments thus far. Now you have to understand that Stacy and I, although we agree on many things, we also disagree on several things as well. The Trayvon Martin shooting is one such issue which he and I have not entirely agreed upon and racism in the GOP/Conservative movement is another. Stacy has not bitten his tongue in asserting that racism is very real among conservatives (obviously he knows that not all white conservatives are racists) whereas I have defended the movement to the point of ad nauseam probably. I believe that racism exists with the ranks of the GOP/conservatives but is minimal at best.

I stand behind my philosophy that racism is an enemy of conservatism and on that point I believe that Stacy would agree with me. I just have never believed that racism was prevalent among conservatives. When I read this post my jaw figuratively hit the floor. I was hurt, disappointed and quite shocked at the bigotry, hatred and violent nature of some comments quite frankly. Even more disappointing is the fact that these conservatives actually resorted to racism (very quickly I might add) in response to racism! Imagine the irony of that. This is equivalent to literally pouring gas onto an already raging fire or seeing a man drown and throwing more water on him rather than a life jacket. Here is the picture in question which the person posted along with the comments below it:

Now let me be very clear about something before I share the comments under this post. In no way do I support or defend the message on this man’s shirt. As I stated in my last blog on in the race series “The N Word: Taboo to Whites, Endearing to Blacks” I support free speech including pejorative usage, because I believe in upholding the constitution but the user must also deal with the consequences that come from society. I don’t condone use of the “N” word nor “cracker”or any other pejorative. I personally don’t use either word. For those of you that follow my blog you know that I condemn racism of any kind from anyone. Here are the comments posted under this picture on the page of the white conservative (whom I won’t name). I took the liberty to delete their names as well & not every comment is problematic, but most are.

Now I have highlighted in red the most offensive comments in my opinion. All of these comments are from conservatives (or so they say). Some of them even have said that they are “Christian Conservatives” on their own pages.  What is most shocking to me are the comments that call for violence against the man in the picture. I have argued Stacy Swimp down on this topic and have asserted that people that react or think like this are extremists but these are regular, hard working Americans just like me.  In my blog where I discuss the GOP and outreach, I roasted the GOP for not doing outreach in minority communities and discussed how important it was in this day and age.  How can black conservatives especially (not that they are the only ones) effectively speak with those in our communities about the GOP/Conservative movement when racism and bigotry of this kind is prevalent. This is not the only post like this on that persons page or others.

The anonymity of the internet (hence, social media) allows people to say and do all sorts of strange, racist, sexist and misogynistic things which they’d never say to a person face to face. It kind of reminds me of how liquor loosens people’s lips when drunk. Hmm. White & black conservatives who publicly spew this racist rhetoric should be responding to this hate with love and using this opportunity to educate not ridicule. Everything expressed in most of these comments goes against the principles of conservatism which I fully support.  In discussing this post with another friend of mine who is actually a moderate Democrat, he said to me:

“Talitha–if you believe that Conservatives are “better” then it makes sense to think that it is “minimal”. But if you believe that “Conservatism matches my own world view, but they aren’t necessarily better people” then inevitably one comes to the conclusion that the two sides of the political equation can have different, but equally weighted assholes and angels. My belief is that the principles of the Right definitely appeal to racists, and that there are more people who believe in Nature over Nurture on your side of the equation. Not more “bad” people, again–just different flavors of “bad.”

How can I argue with this in light of the comments above? He makes a very valid point actually. These conservatives’ behavior is despicable and no different from that of liberals, whose behavior we often criticize. Another important point to mention was summed up best by Stacy Swimp regarding many black conservatives failure to react at all to things like this:

“ Many black conservatives will publicly admonish black Americans for any and every fault that they can find. However, these same black conservatives will make endless excuses as to why they are silent when whites, particularly white conservatives, are clearly guilty of racist rhetoric or/and actions. Yet, these aforementioned black conservatives don’t understand why blacks don’t trust them. It’s because they are cowards.”

Among Conservatives: Black Bullies & White Extremists

Among Conservatives: Black Bullies & White Extremists

As is the case with many articles I write, they start off as a status update on a social media site until I realize that they are much too long for a mere status update. This may be my least popular article but I’m okay with that because I think this needs to be said. Racial tensions in this country are at a peak now because everyone has an opinion on the Zimmerman/Martin case and the Liberal media is constantly fanning the flames and maintaining confusion with it’s slow drizzling out of the truth mixed in with deliberate exaggerations or lies. Now what I’m about to say is me on the outside looking in at everyone, myself included. What bothers me now about some elements of the Conservative, collective reaction to the Zimmerman case is that there are some black Conservatives putting pressure on some other white Conservatives to come out against Zimmerman which some have reserved judgment on, because the details are so murky.Yeah I know he followed him and shot him so please don’t respond with the reported details because the only solid evidence we know now is the 911 call really, everything else that does not come directly from a primary source is hearsay.

Black Conservatives, not every white Conservative who thinks Zimmerman was defending himself is a racist under the guise of Conservatism. Zimmerman followed Trayvon we all know that but what we don’t know with certainty is what motivated him to do so and it is possible that it was not his race. Given the crime statistics in the area it is also possible that he was racially profiling him but was not doing so without racism. I know some of you are like “what in the world does she mean by that?” What I mean is the same way the FBI profile for most terrosists nowadays is typically a man of Middle Eastern descent, but does that mean that the agent out looking for him is racist towards Middle Eastern men? Now that analogy some will say is apples and oranges but the general principle is the same so I think of it as Gala apples and Granny Smith apples.  Some Black Conservatives are presenting their arguments for Zimmerman as the villian in a very cunning way. They say, “Now you know me, I don’t play the race cards, I’m a Tea Party member, GOP and a Conservative. I NEVER cry racism but THIS time you need to join me in calling a spade a spade. THIS time, is the one exception, the isolated incident.” You see my problem with that is that philosophically you’re cornering the white Conservative and placing them in a position where even if they have a differrent view they HAVE to agree because otherwise their “failure” to see your point means they are in danger of being viewed as a racist or being told “You’re not a TRUE Conservative, you’re not a TRUE Christian Conservative”. You see, what you are doing is bullying them! It’s also ironic to me that for some of us, in the back of our minds we have reserved a place for such racist exceptions and we just KNOW this is the time to utilize such a reservation. Let me tell you, I’d rather fill that space with air than the rare possibility of a lynching.

For every report that says Zimmerman was the aggressor, there is one that says Martin was and both theories of what happened are possible, with or without racism, which we can only speculate on because we are not in Zimmerman’s head. A black friend of Zimmerman’s came out and said he is not a racist. Tomorrow a former girlfriend or childhood friend will come out and say something different probably…and the world turns. People are so damn sure of themselves when that is impossible because none of us was actually there. Conservatives if you actually believe that your version of events which you accept is the only possibility and anyone who doesn’t accept it must have  hidden “-ist or -ic” horns attached to them, you have lowered yourself to the reasoning of many ( certainly not all)  Liberals and have reached the height of human arrogance. To be clear, there are Conservatives who think Zimmerman is guilty of racially profiling Martin, Conservatives who are uncertain and have reserved judgment until they get actual facts and there are others, who think that Zimmerman shot in self-defense as he said after being attacked by Martin. This same division of formed opinions exists among Liberals and Independents with differences in how many of them subscribe to which theory or lack of one only. There is nothing wrong with any of these positions and I may disagree with one or the other but I am humble enough to realize that I might be wrong.

Then there are a few White Conservatives who have gone to the other extreme and actually believe that Obama had Trayvon Martin  killed for political gain and I won’t entertain wild conspiracy theories – not my style and I have better things to do. I may not like Obama’s policies or leadership but I’m not that desperate to demonize him. Also some have started demonizing Trayvon Martin as a thug because of one picture, showing him allegedly throwing up gang signs, which is very flawed logic, although I will agree that the Liberal media has a definite agenda by purposely showing pictures of Trayvon that are probably a decade younger than he actually was at the time of his death. This is to maximize outrage by showing a “little boy” instead of the young man that he was. I don’t have a lot to say about the Black majority’s reaction or Liberal reaction because I expected it. Any Conservative who is surprised has been living under a rock. Jackson and Sharpton are doing what they do but I am very disgusted by Farrakhan’s strong hints for retaliation, Spike Lee tweeting Zimmerman’s address and the New Black Panther Party putting a $10,000 bounty on Zimmerman’s head – way too 1960’s Jim Crow South mob mentality like for me. I have no interest in traveling back in time to that time with role reversals – you Liberals can have that bigotry to yourselves.

Now even with the misleading pictures, they don’t prove either version of events and are irrelevant in terms of guilt or innocence although I’m sure the masses of  potential jurors got enough exposure to make it hard to find objective people, when this trial begins, now that Zimmerman has been charged. For the life of me I just don’t understand why we can’t just get the objective truth instead of all the twists and propaganda. Now a few Conservatives (a very few) have said to me varying versions of “no don’t write posts like this because they will divide Conservatives” – to those persons I say: I’ve never been afraid to criticize any group I belong to (tactfully & after careful thought mind you) and the Conservative movement is no different. I know one thing with certainty, this incident has taught me a lot, namely that Liberals are not the only ones who have some growing to do.
