Black Conservatives & Liberals, Listen Up!

Friends,

Conservative Libertarian blogger Talitha McEachin

One of the things that I have learned from interacting with black liberals, libertarians and Independents (of course I’ve interacted with whites, Hispanics & Asians who subscribe to these ideologies too I’m just talking about black people right now) is that they are not just ignorant fools whom, if they would only subscribe to my way of thinking and my value system, they’d be liberated. I have also observed that many of them share some of the same values and conservative principles that I do and some do not.

Liberals and conservatives have different value systems, so their political views are based on those different value systems, but certainly are not limited to them. I am convinced, that most Americans are neither extreme as the media would have us believe. Most people are a combination of political views and have things that they are conservative about as well as liberal. Personally, I’m a conservative libertarian who has been labeled a RINO, far right winger, moderate and liberal even, depending on who’s hurling the label and what the topic is. I tend to agree with the late, great Octavia Butler when she said:

“People have the right to call themselves whatever they like. That doesn’t bother me. It’s other people doing the calling that bothers me.

I stand with conservatives on abortion and I don’t want to be forced into complicity in such an immoral act by the use of my tax dollars to pay for them. I believe the resolution to the same sex marriage issue should be libertarian in nature. I agree more with liberals on global warming.Everyone should carefully examine each thing they believe without the bias of political labels or fear of rejection by their “political tribe”.

Black conservatives as a whole need to understand that the notion that our liberal counterparts are just ignorant as a whole, is patently false. Black liberals who think that black conservatives are mere “sellouts”, “Uncle Toms” or “boot-lickers” need to understand that not only is Uncle Tom a misnomer, such stereotypes are also patently false. I have no reason or evidence which leads me to believe that either group is more or less intelligent, or succumbs to name-calling or ignorant behavior, any more than the other. I know people from all groups mentioned who are more intelligent than I am.

Black folks (and any community can apply this), I say all of this to say, that such stereotypes & self-hatred within the black American community, gets in the way of intelligent discourse, brother/sisterhood and a collective, powerful response to the ills of our communities. All of us are needed to make a difference. My Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, Conservative & Liberal (and any other combination that exists) brothers and sisters, united we stand, divided we fall: make a choice.

Dr. Ben Carson for President 2016: My Thoughts

I’ve been reading more about Dr. Ben Carson & I know many want him to run for president in 2016, mostly because of his refreshing, boldness to speak the truth most recently at a prayer breakfast in the president of President Barack Obama and on Hannity. I am very cautious because he is a doctor & a philosopher without much experience. Lack of experience but celebrity charisma got us Barack Obama – twice. Dr. Carson revealed that he is an Independent and I do like what I am hearing from him. He did a wonderful job on Hannity. I think that if he runs for president in 2016 that it would be best for him to run as an Independent, rather than being forced to choose to run on a Republican or Democratic ticket, because I think he can get the financial backing no matter what & people from all walks of life & affiliations will support him. The Democratic party nor the GOP deserves him as their candidate for various reasons & it’s not in his best interest to play the partisan politics game.

If he aligns himself with either, no matter how true the words coming out of his mouth are, there will be many to immediately go into “herd biased” mode just because of a label. I am not ready to endorse him for president in 2016 because I have to do more research. My love for him as a role model is due to his achievements as a surgeon, so we’ll see what happens. If he does run, whomever he is up against had better bring their “A game” because you cannot do to him what was done to Herman Cain – the man has virtually no skeletons in the closet  so the usual mudslinging & character assassinations will be futile.

The road to 2016 is paved by us, if we choose to do so rather than play the media game & end up with the least likely candidate as the right did with Romney in 2012. As for me, my decisions will only be guided by careful research, qualifications that I see fit for the leader of the free world, comparing & contrasting without consideration of labels & prayer. Let those who choose to be told who to support fall into place as usual – those are dead, zombie votes and last time I checked I had a pulse & a mind.

President Obama’s Cabinet Lacks Diversity

Obama-Winking-300x200You know, not that I really care that Barack Obama has filled his cabinet with white men (no women or minorities & I really don’t care because I try not to engage in identity politics) but some great points are made here. Let me say that I don’t care if the men selected by Barack Obama are purple, I am concerned about whether or not they are competent white men who best represent the American people. Far too often in American politics are the arguments center stage regarding racial, gender or sexual preference demographics, when the focus should be on qualifications & competence. I’ll take 20 competent white men over one incompetent woman or black person any day & vice-versa. This is the man who bypassed fiscal issues almost entirely & campaigned relentlessly on “women’s reproductive rights” & towards women in general, as well as Hispanics & the LGBT community. He didn’t bother to campaign to black people because he knew he could ignore us & we’d still vote for him in droves. That’s just what the black vote has become – blindly faithful to the Democratic party. Before any liberals start bringing up the GOP straw man arguments, I have stated many times before that I advocate for black people to register as Independents & look at each platform & forget party affiliation. It is so ironic to me, that the man who almost entirely campaigned on women’s rights, has a cabinet with no women or minorities. I mean, diversity is allegedly a concern of his, right?. Barack Obama is a charlatan & he’ll say and do anything to get certain votes then does whatever he wants to do. No surprise there from he & many politicians, for that matter. Can you imagine the media backlash that a Republican president would receive if he appointed all white men to his cabinet? As I said, I don’t care that Obama has appointed all white men, especially if they are qualified & competent, it’s just the double standard & hypocrisy that I detest. A white, Republican president who appoints no women or minorities would immediately be labeled a racist and/or a misogynist! George Bush appointed more minorities to cabinet positions than Barack Obama, now what does that tell you? The man is as fake on issues of diversity (among others) as a $3 bill. President Obama, after making such a huge deal out of “women’s rights” & diversity, put your appointments where your mouth is or leave it alone:

Roland Martin, Rosa Brooks & Reihan Salam discuss the lack of diversity in the Obama cabinet.
